Figurative Language

Please share some examples of figurative language. Look in your reading books, library books, or other resources. Be sure to include your initials in your post. If you can tell what type of figurative language (imagery, personification, simile, metaphor), please include that as well.

Figurative language is similes, metaphors, and imagery's.
Similes- He was as happy as a clown. She was as sweet as pie. He was as hungry as a lion.
Metaphors- You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Your eyes are bigger than your stomach. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.
Imagery's- He smelled like rotten fish. I see that her stomach is as round as a bowling ball. Her voice sounded like nails on a chalk board. A.D.

Figurative language is imagery, simile, metaphore, idioms, and onomatopoeia. Hear are the definitions of these words: Imagery:Language that has at least one of the five senses in it. Example: The music is very high-pitched that tells the sense that the writer is telling you is hearing. Simile: A figure of speech that compares two things. It usually has the words like or as in it. Example: The girl is as smart as a computer. It is comparing a girl and a computer. Metaphore:A comparision that shows two things that are different but alike in one important way. It doesn't use the words like or as. Example: Her hair is silk. It's telling that her hair feels like silk.Idioms:A phrase where the words together have a different meaning than in the dictionary. Example:A piece of cake.It doesn't mean that there is a piece of cake, it means that the task someone told you is easy.Onomatopoeia:The use of words telling a sound. Example:craaaaack went the baseball bat. It's telling you how it sounded when thee baseball bat craked when the ball hit the bat. EWW
