Heroes

What is a hero? Our next SEM unit will celebrate heroes and the contributions these individuals made to our country and the world.

For this blog post, I would like you to think about someone you consider to be a hero. In your reply, please share the characteristics, actions, or attitude of this person and explain why you think this person is a hero.

To get you started, I'll share my hero with you as an example:

One of the bravest people I've heard about is Captain Sully. You may have heard or read about him, or even seen him on television. He is a pilot who safely landed his plane on the Hudson River in New York when his plane unexpectedly had engine problems. He was able to land his plane and evacuate all of the passengers and crew. He had to stay calm during the crisis. Even though he had been trained on emergency landings, it was still difficult and terrifying. He may not have woken up that morning thinking he would be a hero later that day, but I think everyone on the plane thinks of him as a hero.

Please remember to include your first name or initials in your reply. Replies are due Friday, November 4.

George Washington was our nation's first President. Yet, he would have been remembered as an American hero even if he had never served in that position. His early service to his nation included his work in the Virginia Legislature and his military duties. He was active in the French and Indian War. In fact, it was George Washington's completion of his assignment, directed toward moving the French from Fort Duquesne that got the whole thing started. Later in his career, George Washington would be a member of the Continental Congress. From there, he was appointed Commander in Chief of the American Revolutionary Army. At the end of the war, Washington would not become a dictator or King. Ana

Martin Luther King is an American hero because he fought for Civil Rights. At that time, blacks were not allowed to do specific things with whites like go to school together, eat at restaurants together , and even drink at the same water fountain! Martin thought these rules were unfair, so his goal was to change them. He led bus boycotts and gave many speeches to make the whites understand the equality of blacks and whites. In 1963, Martin Luther led a rally to Washington DC and gave his very famous “ I Have a Dream ” speech. Because of Martin's efforts, the Civil Rights Act was passed, which said that everybody is equal. In 1968, Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. After Martin died, there was no more segregation. Rajath

I think that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.is a hero because he changed the whole country by giving his "I have a dream" speech. Martin's speech changed the government's mind about treating both black and white people equally. He could even be a pesident. JUSTIN

My person is AJ Green. He plays football and he is great wide receiver! He played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2007-2010. His conference was the SEC South Eastern Conference. His number was 8. Now he is in the NFL National Football League for the Cincinnati Bengals. His number now is 18. He is my hero because he is a great wide receiver and I wish I could be like him someday. He lead Georgia to many victories. He played in college football, he was a first round pick in the 2011 draft, and now he plays in the NFL. That’s why AJ Green is my hero.

A hero could be any person, it doesn’t just have to be a person that has super powers or super strength like Susan B. Anthony or Mary Bethune, they didn’t have super powers. They just made difference in the lives of people’s by speaking out and making a big difference. BS
